Surendra Tanti, the Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI) in charge of Kumuli Circle in Koraput, was taken into custody by Odisha Vigilance authorities due to allegations of accumulating wealth disproportionate to his income.

A thorough search of his properties revealed an impressive collection of assets, including:

– Multiple high-rise buildings: three imposing structures
– Extensive landholdings: 17 plots of land
– Substantial bank deposits: exceeding Rs. 84 lakhs
– Valuable gold reserves: over 150 grams
– Significant cash holdings: Rs. 1.55 lakhs
– Luxury vehicles: three four-wheelers

Tanti failed to offer a plausible justification for these assets, prompting his detention. A formal complaint has been lodged against him under Koraput Vigilance PS case No. 31/2024, and the inquiry is still underway. The Odisha Vigilance team, spearheaded by three Deputy Superintendents of Police, carried out simultaneous raids at eight locations across Koraput district, encompassing Tanti’s residence and office premises.
